In 1900 Peter C. Lutkin composed his Benediction with Seven-fold Amen. In 1926 John Finley Williamson organized America's Westminster Choir School, and took his fellow American's composition as an anthem of sorts. Over the years it became a tradition for Westminster choirs to conclude concerts with Lutkin's Benediction. Generations of Westminster graduates took this tradition with them all over the world. Mary Cheyney Gould was one of those graduates. Many who never attended Westminster Choir College (as it became in 1939) now keep this tradition, and it has woven itself into the fabric of many of our beloved institutions, like our own Bagaduce Chorale.
